ramakhandra - Minogame
After 3 years of constructing music among the stars, Ramakhandra returns to Earth with their most fully realized work to date. Entitled “Minogame”, their new single explores the importance of ancestral guidance in the modern era. The minogame itself is a mythical turtle from Japanese legend that embodies the essence of longevity and wisdom over the eons. Channeling its infinite wisdom, Ramakhandra enters into a new era of trust in their inner selves and each other as they embrace experimentation and discard the constraints of convention.
With the band’s first self-titled album serving as a preliminary exploration of how they can play together, “Minogame” is the first single off the band’s next full-length release that showcases the band’s comfort with their unique nature. Power and focus flow from member to member as they have now developed the trust and confidence to let each member shine. With their long anticipated EP entitled Agent M releasing in the fall, Ramakhandra is showing the world yet again that not everything has been done with music.

Ramakhandra - Self Titled Album
From the opening, drawn-out synth lines on, "E.T ( Extended Technique)" to the echoing bass fueled finish on "Haku" - Denver-based Ramakhandra's debut "S/T" crackles with otherworldly energy.
Recorded and mixed by LA-based engineer Bradley Giroux, who worked on Kamasi Washington’s Heaven & Earth, this record was lovingly crafted by four creative minds pooling their imaginations to create visions of another reality with echoes of our own world. These tracks can be compared to Flying Lotus, Little Dragon, or Hiatus Kaiyote, but that would only tell part of the story. This band exists within a world all its own.
Listening to this record is like voyaging through an undiscovered country filled with creatures from anime, popular culture, and video games. Taken as a whole it feels like the sonic equivalent of a Studio Ghibli film, but you can also get easily lost in their universe by looking at the beauty in every stroke of soundwaves. These songs breathe with life, like on the environmental fable “Kujira,” in which a whale sprouts wings to escape an earth ruined by humanity, or “Andromeda Soup Dumpling,” a dreamland anthem about not losing hope as your loved ones succumb to illness.
Each song digs deep into the internal and external crises facing humanity, but recasts them in magic and hope, remaking sadness and struggle into beauty. Nowhere is this more evident than on the rallying cry of “Haku,” where thunder and lightning crash overhead as singer/harpist Annastezhaa sings a battle mantra of rebirth.
Ramakhandra is music to wrap yourself in, one moment it's raindrops falling on your face, the next it’s an inter-dimensional storm soaking you to your very essence. But above all, it's breathtaking.

Ramakhandra - KUJIRA
Kujira feels like it was beamed directly from an Earth in another dimension, one in which whales can free themselves from the shackles of climate change and pollution by escaping to the stars.
The story that Ramakhandra crafts with Annastehzaa’s voice at its core feels urgent, but also timeless. It confronts one of the greatest threats facing humanity by taking the perspective of those without the power to resist the changes we have wrought in our shared world. In this parallel reality, the creatures we are killing are instead given the freedom to make their own choices. They can escape, and leave us to our own demise. Kujira is both a wish and a warning.
At once cosmic and earthly, Kujira weaves an intoxicating oceanic spell as it opens with an otherworldly voice calling out for freedom before a one-two punch of vocals & harp pulls the listener in. Quickfire breaks plus bass wrap and wind their way across as synths stretch out for miles into a bottomless blue ocean before shooting you out into the twinkling night sky. Over it all the harp leads you on like a pied piper, deeper and deeper into the unknown.
This is Ramakhandra distilled into their very essence and dropped on your tongue to create visions before their album brings a full-fledged storm this spring.

Ramakhandra - Andromeda Soup Dumpling
Ramakhandra’s propulsive 2nd single, “Andromeda Soup Dumpling'' is a dreamland anthem for our new isolation age. Lyrically conceived by vocalist/harpist Annastezhaa as a means to cope with the progression of her mother’s worsening illness, the pure emotion it conveys couldn’t be more poignant right now.
The COVID-19 crisis facing the world hits at the very soul of our humanity mixing feelings of hopelessness, and loneliness. Understanding just how fragile we all are, and the deep pain of being unable to be with those you love during this time, or change what happens to them. Andromeda feels like an elixir to all of these emotions, distilling them down into energy, and then using that power to break free. You are launched into the stratosphere from the very first moments, vocalist/harpist Annastezhaa’s harp rings out filling your brain with a sweet concoction of rippling chords. You can’t help but feel like you’re being shot into the sky as bass, drums, and harp push you higher and higher before the vocals wrap you in a warm embrace.
While it's built upon pain, at its core this is a song about hope. It’s success at the last moment, it’s catharsis, or a dumpling at the bottom of a soup bowl. It reminds you that no matter how separated you feel from someone physically, their essence still surrounds you, and exists inside you forever. This is Ramakhandra at the height of their powers, shepherding you past the clouds, through the milky stars, before letting you float away in zero gravity.
